If you find spending time with family members over the holidays stressful, you're not alone. Without the divine intervention of Christmas peace or another Chanukkah miracle, arguments, misunderstandings, and offensive behavior seem to be par for the course during the busy, stressful holiday season. If your family celebrations are frustrating rather than fun, the following energy methods might be helpful in restoring calm to your household or in helping you to find balance in the midst of things. Visualization: A Shield of White LightSometimes, walking into a loud, chaotic family party can be daunting. You might feel bombarded by the noise and energy and less than thrilled about walking into the melee. If this is the case, one of the most protective things you can do to support your energy system is to imagine a shield of white light surrounding your entire body. White light is one of the original and most effective ways to dispel negative energy, and a shield keeps other people's angry, grumpy or jarring energies from affecting you. You can imagine it as a bubble, a "force field" or a suit of armor around your body, or waft your hands around your body to "draw" the protective shield of white light. Visualization: Honey and DovesIf there is one family member in particular who is angry, imposing, or difficult to make peace with, the following visualizations to send positive energy to them usually do the trick. Imagine a mental image of the person, then mentally pour a big pot of honey over his head. This is intended to make the person sweeter. It's been known to work on angry cops, irritable coworkers, family members – and can even be used on yourself, if you're feeling grumpy or out of sorts. A second step to this visualization involves sending the image of a dove – the symbol of peace - from your heart to the heart of the person you have trouble getting along with. Essential Oils to Improve Mood and Protect Your AuraDiffusing essential oils throughout the house or a party room can dramatically affect the mood, changing a gathering from tense or angry to a more peaceful, restful atmosphere. Essential oil have been studied for their ability to alter brain chemistry and improve mood, and they can be profoundly effective in calming children and making family conversations more relaxed and less antagonistic. Essential oils can also be used to protect your aura from negative energy, as an addition to the shield of white light or as a protective measure all on their own. A drop or two of oil placed on the hands can be swept through the aura, around the body, or applied on the chakras can help protect your energy so you will be less affected by holiday drama. Some of the oils that are commonly used to protect the energy field include frankincense, myrrh, hyssop, angelica, spruce, fir, and many of the Biblical oils. Self-Balance with Energy TechniquesMost people find that when they are more centered and grounded in themselves, other people's energy affects them less.
