Stock Versus Dosage Strength Flower EssencesIncrease the Strength of Your Remedies and Save Money, Too!
Knowing how to mix and use a dosage bottle can make flower essences more effective, plus make them stretch much further.
Stock strength is the way most vibrational and flower essences, such as the Bach Flower Remedies, are sold. They can be taken "as is" from the bottle, or they may be diluted to make dosage strength. Even though they are diluted, dosage strength essences are actually stronger than stock essences. This may seem backwards, but this is actually how essences work; it is the same with homeopathy. To make a dosage bottle, put 5-20 drops of stock essence into a clean one-ounce dropper bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with spring water. Shake it for at least 15 seconds, and then label it. Many essence practitioners like to spend that time focusing on the purpose of the essence and the wellbeing of the person for whom they’re preparing it – which you can do, too. Take 10-20 drops of the dosage strength essence by mouth 1-4 times a day, as needed, or as you have been directed by your healthcare practitioner. At this rate, the dosage bottle should last you a long time; the stock bottle should last you even longer. Use of Alcohol as a PreservativeIf the dosage bottle is to be used for a long time or if it is going to be exposed to conditions that would encourage bacterial growth, the use of 1 tablespoon of brandy or vodka as a preservative is recommended in the one ounce bottle. Other preservatives that can be used are vinegar or glycerin. However, they often don’t preserve very long, allowing bacteria and other organisms to grow in the bottle fairly rapidly. Another convenient way to use dosage-strength essences – and keep yourself well hydrated, too – is to put 1-3 drops of stock essence per pint of liquid into any water bottle you tend to tote around through the day. Shake as when making any dosage bottle, and then drink it liberally. Careful Measurement is Not the PointExactly how much of a stock essence is diluted in exactly how much water is not the work of careful measurement. The idea with making dosage strength is to dilute stock strength essences well. Essences are not additive; one drop is not half as “strong” as two drops. That is how chemicals or pharmaceuticals function. Essences contain life-force energy. As with all energy medicine, the amount present is either sufficient to catalyze a healing response, or it is not. More is not necessarily better… more may be, well, just more. If You Are Sensitive to AlcoholMany people who have had problems with alcohol – for example, an addiction or other sensitivity – hesitate to take essences that may use it as a preservative. If that is the case, you can search for alcohol-free essences, or consider the following. While most flower essences do contain alcohol, the amount taken in each dose is very, very tiny. Once you have diluted the stock strength essence to dosage strength, and than you take only 10-20 drops from the dosage bottle, the amount of alcohol ends up being extremely minor. Keep in mind that the sugars in ripe fruit can also turn to alcohol at extremely low levels.
