Practiced by many cultures for thousands of years, touch therapy encompasses a variety of alternative energy healings such as Reiki, Mahi Kari and Therapeutic Touch.
Touch Therapy is based on the belief that all human beings are energy fields or an energy system, and that any illness or pain is simply a blockage somewhere in their energy system. The role of the practitioner is to detect the blocks or malalignments in the client's energy field and then send them positive energy through the palms of their hands using Universal Life Force Energy, which is the energy that acts and lives in all created matter and that supports and sustains life. What is Touch Therapy?Discovered by nurse and theosophist Dolores Krieger and Dora Kunz in the 1970s, Touch Therapy is based on the deep seeded instinct that tells people that human touch is healing. Practitioners who are in the various modalities of touch therapy all use this concept to aid their clients. The practitioner moves their hands lightly over the client's body, searching for energy imbalances. This can be detected through sensations such as heat, cold, tingling, pulsation, electric shock or tightness. Once they have detected the area of dis-ease, the practitioner will move or redistribute the negative energy, enabling the body to come back into balance and allow the positive energy flow, reconnecting it to the Universal Life Force Energy. Benefits of Touch TherapyTouch therapy can treat and cure a wide variety of illnesses such as heart disease, stress and infections. It relaxes the body and stimulates circulation and immune function. It helps to dissolve physical, emotional and mental tension within the body and the energy field. This release permits rapid removal of toxins and blockages enhancing the normal flow of life energy. It clears, strengthens and heals energy pathways allowing the life force to flow in a natural and healthy way, according to the International Center for Reiki Training. Types of Touch TherapyThere are various forms of Touch Therapy such as Reiki, Mahi Kari, Muri El, Therapeutic Touch and Jo Ray. Though they all use the concept of working with the client's energy as well as the Universal Life Force Energy, but vary slightly in their techniques and terminology. Reiki Reiki is a form of spiritual healing dating back to 20th century Japan. In Sageeta Jaggia's article What is Reiki, she states that Reiki is "a unique healing art that stimulates and brings equilibrium at all levels of existence. It is the receiving of unconditional love which brings the client back to a state of peace and harmony." Reiki works on the cause of the illness rather than the symptoms and is done by the practitioner moving their hands over the client's body without actually touching them. When the practitioner finds a blockage, they channel the Universe's energy through the palms of their hands to the client. The results from a Reiki session tend to be subtle but vary from person to person. Mahi Kari Mahi Kari means light energy. Though it is similar to Reiki in its technique of channeling energy through the palms of the practitioner, Mahi Kari channels positive spiritual energy or "truelight" to the client. It purifies, revitalizes spirit, mind and body. Therapeutic Touch Therapeutic Touch, or laying on hands healing, is the practice of bringing the client's energy or vital life force back into balance. This is done by the practitioner lightly moving their hands over the client's body feeling for imbalances. When the practitioner locates an imbalance they move or redistribute the energy, relieving the parts that are congested or blocked, and enabling the universal life force energy to flow and be received easily. Ultimately, the client heals himself, as the practitioner accelerates the healing process by clearing the blockages and giving him a boost which allows his recuperative system to take over and continue the healing. Touch Therapy a Form of Alternative HealingTouch Therapy is an alternative healing method that has many variations and origins. Though all are similar they vary in their technique and styles. Choice of method is most likely personal preference but all reap the many health benefits of this therapy; it relaxes, rejuvenates and brings into balance the life force energy that surrounds flows and is human beings.
